Gut feeling or Intuition?
“I have a good intuition, I feel it in my guts!” Me as well as many other people were used to believe that intuition is something once feels in the guts. That include “butterflies” or more dramatic feelings that are not pleasant and in some cases such as before an important event, that gut feeling will quickly take us to the loo. Such feeling is heavy, very strong, often uncomfortable – this is how the body reacts to stress or nervous stimulus, but this is not an intuition.
So what is it and where is it, how to recognise it?
In today’s fast-paced corporate, the concept of intuition has gained significant attention. We want to know why things happen, why we drop into same situations again and again. This goes on a personal level – things happening to us and also on professional or business level.
Common misconception is that a Gut feeling is same as Intuition.
Coming back to differences. Whilst Gut feeling starts when we face strong stimuli such as fear or desire, Intuition, on the other hand, is manifesting through hearing, smelling, sensing, seeing … – knowing.
It is received instantly, without hesitation and is very informative that is very clear difference from a gut feeling which is heavy and often felt in .. the guts!
But what is business intuition, exactly? It’s about tuning into that universal all knowing wisdom which can guide decision-making if we allow it to. By cultivating a deeper connection with our intuition, we can foster a productive atmosphere that thrives on creativity and innovation.
How to activate intuition, start to trust and use it in our daily lives?
Now that we understand the difference between how the intuition feel vs. gut feeling, we will do a simple exercise to experience it. No matter that it is simple, it will allow to connect one of the senses / flavours: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching or knowing.
Intuition is like a muscle, the more you use it and trust it, the stronger it becomes and it is different for everyone. The more flavours you connect/learn to use the stronger is the signal and the more insightful is the whole experience.
So, let’s begin:
- Stand up, close your eyes.
- Inhale and exhale 3-4 times: make deep deep inhalations and nice long relaxed exhalations. With each exhalation being slightly longer, even more relaxed.
- Now tell yourself “Show me how YES feels like.” Observe your body, continue breathing. Check what you feel, where you feel, what sensations it is. Does the body want to lean forwards or backwards, to one side or another? Observe it and stay with it. Now relax, open your eyes, shake your legs, shake your arms, jump up few times – this helps to reset.
- Now tell yourself “Show me how NO feels like.” Again, observe your body, continue breathing. Check what you feel, where do you feel it, how do you feel it. If you are leaning or feel to do any other movement, experience it, get to know it.
- Again open your eyes, shake, jump, reset.
- Now close your eyes and pose yourself a question that could have only Yes or No answer . For example: Should I take on this project? Is this food good for me? Should I sign this contract?
- And observe is it YES or is it a NO (according to the exercise we just done to determine how YES and NO feels like).
